What is a Restorative Dentist?
A Restorative Dentist is an individual who concentrates on the overall rehabilitation of a patient’s mouth from the simplest procedure of filling a tooth with a single surface of decay to the total re-creation of a dentition. It is his or her responsibility to coordinate care with any needed specialists and provide the overall vision of the final treatment result.
Restorative care includes cosmetic and functional components. Individual fillings, crowns, laminates, recontouring, repositioning, whitening, along with replacing missing teeth remain the purview of the restorative dentist. Depending on the patient’s overall needs and dental and medical condition tooth replacement can be achieved utilizing natural teeth and/or dental implants to support the dentition rather than removable appliances that rely on a horseshoe shaped lower arch or the palate of the upper arch. Such appliances compromise function, comfort, taste, confidence and self esteem.
